10 Video Game Characters We Can't Believe Got Cut
7. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton - GoldenEye 007
Four 007s enter... but only one can leave.
No, that's not the plot for the next James Bond movie (although now that we've written it down, we kinda want to see it). It was the central idea behind the inaccurately-titled All Bonds mode in Goldeneye 007 for the N64.
All Bonds mode would have allowed four players to duke it out deathmatch-style to finally decide who was the best James Bond - the suave Sean Connery, the charming Roger Moore, the intense Timothy Dalton, or the Steeley-eyed Piers Brosnan. (That one's for the doubtless millions of Remington Steele fans that make up WhatCulture's readership).
There were two problems with the mode. One - where the heck was George Lazenby? Two - the developers failed to account for Sean Connery's fearsome reputation.
Game Director Martin Hollis revealed in a 2020 interview that All Bonds mode was shut down pronto by those in charge of the James Bond license, as they were genuinely worried that Sean Connery would sue everyone involved for placing his likeness in the game.
This worry seems a tad unfounded - Connery had no problem granting his likeness for the PS2's From Russia With Love - but it was enough to scrap the entire project and ensure Piers Brosnan would remain the one and only Bond in the game.
