10 Video Game Characters Who Broke Into Song

9. Anne Bonny (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag)

The sixth mainstream Assassin’s Creed game was the first in the franchise to rid itself of Desmond in favour of focusing on the character whose life you’re living. It was a risky move abandoning the player’s tie to reality; however the storyline of Black Flag would not have been so impactful without this change.

Over the course of the game, Edward has lost so many friends, most to either death or betrayal, and that’s the sentiment which this song captures perfectly.

This game series has been applauded for its historical accuracy and it shows with this ending cutscene as Anne Bonny, an Irish woman, sings this famous Celtic song used often to conclude a gathering of friends.

The voice is beautiful, and it makes both Edward and the player mournfully reflect on the various losses throughout the game; especially as it opens to him seeing an apparition of his now gone friends and the song closes to him sailing away.
