10 Video Game Characters Who Had To Die To Win

8. Halo: Reach - Noble Six

There is a simple rule to prequels; if you are playing as a character who was never mentioned in the original game, it's a good bet they died before the events in that game took place.

Since Halo: Reach concludes with your character, Noble Six, staying on Reach to ensure The Pillars of Autumn leave safely (which kicks off the story of the original Halo), you know it isn't going to end well for him.

All Noble Six has to do in his final mission is survive. However, he learns almost immediately that is impossible since the aliens just keep coming. He then realises his true mission is to survive long enough to let the Autumn escape. The post-credits scene shows Noble Six was slaughtered by the aliens but it also reveals the Autumn made it to the Halo ring world, proving his death wasn't in vain.

The entire concept is very similar to the Star Wars film, Rogue One, since both stories are prequels that revolve around a person who sacrifices themselves to kickstart the events of the entire saga but are barely acknowledged by the other characters.

Speaking of Star Wars...
