10 Video Game Characters Who Had To Die To Win
7. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Starkiller
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed takes place after the events in Revenge of the Sith but before the original Star Wars film. The game begins with Darth Vader killing a Jedi and adopting his force-sensitive son, Galen, as his apprentice. Vader dubs his student, Starkiller, and trains him in the ways of The Dark Side, unbeknownst to his master, The Emperor.
He intends to manipulate Starkiller to murder The Emperor, allowing Vader to rule the Empire. When Starkiller realises that Vader is using him to further his own agenda, the apprentice vows to end the Empire once and for all.
Of course, we know Starkiller will fail because the story takes place before Star Wars. How can he kill Vader if Vader is the bad guy of the original movie? Wouldn't make sense, would it? Sadly, this means that Starkiller is doomed to fail.
In the final confrontation, Starkiller has the opportunity to slay Vader but refuses to, knowing it will cause him to be turned to The Dark Side. Instead, he tries to fight The Emperor but is killed in the process.
However, Starkiller's death inspires the creation of The Rebel Alliance which ultimately defeats The Empire many years later.
