Arthur Morgan is unequivocally the most beloved character in the Red Dead Redemption series, beating even its original protagonist, John, in pretty much every popularity poll.

A huge part of his charm lies in his sympathetic but rational attitude, which allows him to be a decent man even among a band of outlaws and scoundrels.

This is why it might be surprising to a lot of people that, in his original form, Arthur wasn't meant to be rational at all. The beta version of Red Dead Redemption 2 reveals that the beloved cowboy was supposed to be more violent and prone to random outbursts of anger. The footage of this early iteration of the game showed him abusing people and lashing out, which was apparently tied to a scrapped idea of his son Isaac dying in the prologue of the game as a newborn.

Once the developers decided Isaac would die a lot earlier as a much older person, Arthur's enforcer attitude was mellowed out as well, and we got the gentleman outlaw we all know and love today.

This said, it is interesting to think about how Arthur would've been received if Rockstar hadn't made the change.
