10 Video Game Characters Who Used The Fourth Wall Against You

Another point-and-click series with humour at its very heart, Space Quest is as well-known for its convoluted environmental puzzles as it is for its strikingly over-the-top deaths. Seriously, have a look at some of those death images; was anyone prepared for that?!

Most of the time, dying will call up one of these pictures, accompanied by a text box detailing at length how stupid you are. You'll then restart at your last save and everything will be fine again.

In the first game, though, two specific places will present to you something quite different if you happen to kick the bucket in a specific violent manner.

The Two Guys From Andromeda, who are, not so subtly, actually the series creators, Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy, will appear to poke fun at this particular death, and with a breakdown of where you went wrong as well as an instant replay, the sequence definitely seems to be laughing at you rather than with you.

These characters feature all throughout the series, and the Fourth Wall-breaking totally loses control (Space Quest III literally has you going to Sierra's studios). But the first instance of this is absolutely the one most aimed at the player - man, they sure do know how to make you feel like a fool.
