10 Video Game Characters You Didn't Know Were Based On Real People

7. Trevor Philips (Grand Theft Auto V) - Tom Hardy

resident evil village
Rockstar & Vertigo Films

Love him or hate him, Trevor Philips must surely be the most memorable of all the Grand Theft Auto protagonists to date.

That's in large part due to the superb performance from voice and motion capture artist Steven Ogg, who created a uniquely chaotic hell-raiser out of Trevor, yet one whose influences aren't immediately apparent.

In a 2013 interview with Buzzfeed, however, Ogg revealed that he drew much of Trevor's personality from one of Tom Hardy's finest performances to date, in the 2008 film Bronson, where he portrayed psychotic British criminal Charles Bronson. Ogg said:

"Tom Hardy's performance in Bronson was certainly an influence. He was able to walk that line of psychopath and entertainer while maintaining his sense of humour in some pretty dark places. I'm always inspired by intensity and those that take great pride in what they do - be it an actor, painter, musician, writer, or arborist."

It isn't difficult to see the similarities between Trevor and Hardy's performance if you've seen the movie, even if it's not a comparison you might immediately draw yourself.
