10 Video Game Cliches That Need To Die
8. Craft Everything, All The Time
I don't exactly know how crafting became a feature that had to be included in every single game regardless of genre, but that's the reality we live in now.
There was once novelty in a system where you could collect scrap to make new things, and it still makes sense in post-apocalyptic titles like The Last of Us or Fallout where scavenging and concocting life-saving items from garbage makes in-world sense, but that context is now seemingly unimportant.
It doesn't matter what kind of game you're playing, it will probably feature some kind of work bench where you can turn scrap into health packs like a rag and bone Jesus. It's a mechanic that, like a lot on this list, isn't bad per se, it's just so familiar that you probably don't even question whether it's any fun to use.
Articles were popping up complaining crafting was overdone back in 2014, and now it's six years later and crafting items as part of the gameplay loop has remained unchanged.
