10 Video Game Conspiracy Theories You'll Start To Believe

5. Predictive Programming In Fallout 3

Predictive programming is the idea that the world's governments place coded messages into media so society will be more accepting to planned future events. (The Simpsons is regularly accused of using this method since it claimed Donald Trump would be president 16 years before he won the election.)

Obviously, a lot of these incidents are nothing more than a coincidence. Nevertheless, people who played Fallout 3 were really freaked out by one such coincidence.

While listening to Galaxy News Radio, the signal is occasionally interrupted by a message composed of numbers and Morse code. One of these messages has been translated as "nine-four-five, four-two-zero, two-zero-one-zero. Accident in the gulf, several dead. Oil spill apparently averted." Less than two years later, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig at the Gulf of Mexico exploded, creating the largest marine oil spill ever.

Now, just because a video game mentioned an oil spill shortly before an oil rig blew up doesn't mean the two are connected. But there are a few details that make this disaster even stranger. The Morse code "four-two-zero" code can reference the 20th of the fourth month, which is when this explosion happened. The code "two-zero-one-zero" corresponds to the year it occurred, 2010.

So, since the other code is "nine-four-five, you would assume the oil spill happened at 945pm, right?

Actually, it happened at 956pm... but that's still pretty close! Even though Bethesda stated the game has no connection to Deepwater Horizon conspiracy theorists think otherwise.
