10 Video Game Crossovers That Went Too Far

7. Black Desert Online And The Bugatti Logo

Black Desert Online is a solid mediaeval fantasy MMORPG from Korean developers Pearl Abyss that, despite launching all the way back in 2015, is still very active today.

The game’s earliest promotional tie-ins made plenty of sense, the most prominent of which was the dark fantasy manga hit Berserk. This featured a new quest, new weapons and coolest of all the Berserker armour. It was a surprising but perfect fit. Then, the developers lost their damn minds in 2021.

Remember when Mercedes-Benz collaborated with Nintendo to feature a few vehicles in Mario Kart 8? It was weird but it clearly didn’t take itself too seriously and it was cute to see the likes of Yoshi’s head poking out from the sunroof of a GLA.

The trailer that announced Black Desert was partnering with Bugatti just felt so forced, overly earnest and left players with many questions. Were cars coming Black Desert Online? No, logos were. You could kit your mount and character up with hideous outfits sporting the bold Bugatti symbol.

Pearl Abyss’ CEO said that the connection between the brands was that they both strived for complete customer satisfaction. Most would wager they themselves were striving for a discount on their next supercar purchase.
