10 Video Game Deaths We All Wanted (But Never Got)

From Call of Duty to The Last of Us 2 and The Walking Dead, here are the deaths that should've been.

The Last Of Us 2
Naughty Dog

So often in video games are we given several reasons to hate a particular character. Whether they killed someone you love, tried to kill you, betrayed you or are just generally a bad person in a million other conceivable ways, the games they feature tend to conclude with a cathartic spot of revenge for the player to indulge in.

Jack Marston avenging his father by gunning down the duplicitous Edgar Ross in the epilogue of Red Dead Redemption, or when Captain Price finally brings an end to his war against Vladimir Makarov at the end of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy come to mind immediately.

These are hugely satisfying deaths that were an extremely long time coming. But what about the deaths we didn't get to revel in? We spent hours upon hours hating these characters, just for them to make it out alive.

What gives?

Sure, they may have performed one noble act that was worthy of having their survival, but there's a strong chance most players aren't too big on 'forgive and forget' when it comes to these characters...

10. Maven Black-Briar - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Last Of Us 2
Bethesda Softworks

Depending on your choices in Skyrim, you can elevate Maven to the title of Jarl of The Rift. You'd think that this newfound position of power and wealth might go straight to her head, yes? Well don't worry, because she has always been stuck-up and arrogant, so at least she won't change.

For many fans of the game, Maven represents everything that is wrong with the elite class. She shows zero humility or compassion, operates largely on threats that show how well-connected she is in her position, constantly belittles you as if you are not worthy of her time and she's a total gossip.

Even before becoming Jarl, Maven is elitist and cutthroat in the way she practically owns Riften. She constantly flaunts her close connections to the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood, even outright stating that the former owe their very existence to her coin.

A woman with this much influence is certainly a worthwhile ally to have, but at the same time, she is utterly detestable to the point that she may not be worth keeping alive at all.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that she also threatened to disown her 'favourite' child for not being too interested in the family business?
