6. Star Fox Adventures

At least this one has an interesting story behind its bizarre final form.
See, back in 1999, a game called "Dinosaur Planet" was pitched and commissioned by Nintendo for the N64.
Developed by Rare, it was set to star a character named Sabre as she explored a galaxy of nefarious creatures, magical powers and spaceships.
The story goes that Shigeru Miyamoto took a look at the game during development - quite far along in fact - and decided it was becoming too visually similar to Star Fox.
He proposed a radical change that - in honesty - could've really worked: Reskin the game using Star Fox assets, and let it be the next evolution of the beloved IP.
The only problem? There wasn't a single thing about Dinosaur Planet's mechanics that would line up with what fans wanted from a Star Fox game.
Yes it was polished enough, and just seeing Fox partake in anything made it a certain level of cool, but Adventures felt every bit like a game wearing the mask of someone else altogether.
