10 Video Game Developers Who HATE Their Own Creation
2. Running With Scissors - Postal III
Postal creators Running with Scissors have always been an irreverent studio for better or worse, and when Postal III released to universal scorn from critics and players alike in 2011, they held their hands up in self-disgust.
Shortly after release, studio head Vince Desi admitted the game wasn't up to par, and less than a year after its release they opted to pull a Sonic and remove Postal III from storefronts entirely.
Running with Scissors flat-out told players that doing so was "in the best interest of the Postal community" and suggested players buy their earlier games instead, which were "a far superior product for a lot less money."
It was eventually revealed that the game had effectively been outsourced to another developer and publisher - the former aptly called Trashmasters - a decision which the studio called both a "disaster" and a "mistake."
Studio producer Jon Merchant meanwhile called the game a "broken mess" and added that Running with Scissors "don't regard it as the third Postal game, just a dodgy spin off that should never have happened."
Ouch.
Hilariously, in 2013 Desi called Postal III a "s**tfest," and when Postal 2 expansion Paradise Lost was released in 2015, it retconned the events of Postal III into a dream the Postal Dude had after crashing his car.
And just recently when the game was delisted from Steam due to DRM issues, Running with Scissors decided to host their own sarcastic "Rest in Piss Celebration" on Discord. Incredible.
It... doesn't get much more damning than that.
