5. Dying Light: The Following

Dying Light was a misunderstood gem. Leaving the gate with a limp thanks to being weighed down by the poor reception of 'Dead Island', those who gave it a chance would quickly saw a lot of charm. One critique was that it often felt claustrophobic in the streets of Harran, and so Techland brought us 'The Following'.

Switching settings from being entombed within city walls to the freedom of an open countryside, The Following provided plenty of new ground to cover. This radical change presented a new challenge, as players were used to getting around on foot, whether it was running across rooftops or whizzing around the place with a grappling hook.

In came the customisable buggy, which saw players driving around this massive new area and through plenty of undead adversaries.

One of the original draws to the game was further enriched as well; granting safety during the day and bringing panic throughout the night. The Following showed players that even with this newfound vehicular confidence, they wouldn't be safe from hard hitting monsters prowling the countryside, despite ploughing into many of them at once.
