10 Video Game Easter Eggs That Went Too Far

1. ??? - Trials Evolution

Trials HD suffered some flack for inserting a ridiculously complex puzzle that offered no reward. Because this sidequest angered players, you'd assume Ubisoft would be more careful in the future.

Instead, they inserted the most ridiculous Easter egg conceivable in the follow-up, Trials Evolution.

Try to wrap your head around this one. If you collect all of the inscribed wooden planks, it'll spell out a code. Once deciphered, you will be lead to a melody, which you need to place in a spectrograph.

If you were wondering where the spectograph is in the game, there isn't one. To solve this riddle, you need to use a REAL spectrograph!

Just when you thought these clues couldn't get any more meta, you're given coordinates to locate four treasure chests in Bath, Helsinki, Sydney, and San Francisco.

Not in the game. In the real world. (We haven't got to the most preposterous part by the way.) These chests contains a key, one of which will open the final box, which is under the Eiffel Tower.

And what's in this illusive box?

We don't know. Because this box will not show up until 2113 AD, this puzzle will remain unsolved for another 90 years.

Just to remind you - Trials Evolution is a racer, not a detective title! Why did the developers put a puzzle that that would stump Sherlock Holmes inside a motorcycle game?

Also, why bother with this convoluted Easter egg, when the final prize can't be worth it? Even if the box contains a billion dollars, it won't matter, since we'll all be dead.
