10 Video Game Easter Eggs It Took Years To Find

6. Play As The Duck In Duck Hunt

Duck Hunt is a classic of the 8-bit era. The NES title was also the first time many had access to a light gun, a firearm peripheral that would later brighten arcades across the world with the likes of the Time Crisis series. Duck Hunt was a rather more sedate affair, and was one of those Ronseal deals: you used the gun to shoot down ducks. If you managed to get some, your faithful pooch would collect them from the brush and the next level would start. If you failed, he would laugh at you, and you'd wish he could get a bullet between the eyes too. Did you know there's a different way to play, though? Okay, so this isn't necessarily a hidden Easter egg - since it was included in the instruction booklet - but it's so rarely mentioned as a feature of the game to count as one. Did you know you can play as the ducks in Duck Hunt? It's actually a pretty neat two-player game. One person plays using the Zapper gun, and the other plugs a traditional NES controller into the port. The first player will be trying to gun down the terrified mallards, whilst player two will be guiding their flight about the screen. Sorry, still no word on whether that mode also involved being able to shoot the dog.
