For those of you not in the know, Vanquish's hero Sam is on a mission to stop some Evil Russians from taking over a solar station, where they intend to use the sun's energy to wipe out US cities.

Pretty standard B-movie guff, right?

Well, things get really strange when government coups come into play, presenting evidence that the US president is actually behind the Russian takeover, and he wants to use this as a chance to wage a war and boost the economy. Okay, so a bit more complex, but you're still following.

Things get really insane when it turns out that the final boss in the game, two slave suits, are controlled by the main Russian bad guy, who then escapes, and the US President commits suicide.

As you do.

So, while our closing shots are of Sam being reunited with his team and being all happy-happy, what we’ve actually been shown is that a terrorist is still on the loose and the US is now without a leader. Not only that, but the US is about to be thrown into a full economic meltdown. Brilliant.

Still, the game plays this off like we shouldn’t worry, because you saved the day! Okay, I can accept that… but who cares about the day when we might all be dead within the week?!
