10 Video Game Exclusives You NEVER Got Over Not Playing
9. Sunset Overdrive - Xbox & Windows

Published in late 2014, third-person action-adventure romp Sunset Overdrive evoked the zany arcade-style vibes of the Borderlands, Saints Row, Jet Set Radio, and Ratchet and Clank properties. True, it underperformed commercially, but it was still lauded by critics (thereby making prospective spectators salivate more as the hype train rolled out).
At first, Insomniac Games – who had been synonymous with PlayStation since they’d created the Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance titles – didn’t want it to be exclusive to Xbox One. However, founder Ted Price explained in 2013 that Microsoft’s Live services and support were too enticing to refuse.
Consequently, many PS4 owners felt betrayed by the decision, having seemingly witnessed one of their most dedicated and reliable developers switch sides without any promise of making amends (or of making the game a multiplatform opportunity sometime down the road).
Indeed, Sunset Overdrive jumped onto Microsoft’s Windows OS in 2018 but never arrived on the PS4 (or PlayStation 5).
Meanwhile, Insomniac Games went back to Sony for fresher Ratchet & Clank adventures (in addition to their revered Marvel’s Spider-Man saga), and without a Sunset Overdrive port or follow-up in sight, PlayStation players may forever be locked out of that vibrant virtual world.
