10 Video Game Fan Theories Better Than The Story We Got
6. Pokémon GO Is Set Before The 'Pokemon War'
One of the most popular gaming theories surrounds the so-called 'Pokemon War', a massive conflict that allegedly preceded the first games in the series that explains why there's so many orphans in the Pokemon world, why there's so many gyms and hospitals scattered around the place, and why most of the adults seem haunted by their past.
Interestingly, Pokémon GO - a bare-bones game with virtually no plot to speak of - supports this widespread theory. The argument goes that the mobile title is set before the Great War, which explains why some Pokémon that are extinct by the time of the first-generation games are alive and kicking in GO, why you don't have the ability to weaken Pokémon before capturing them (because that technique wasn't common practice yet), and why the traditional structure of the Gym League hasn't yet been established.
Likewise it's been said that the unchecked open conflict between the three Pokémon GO teams - Mystic, Instinct and Valor - could have been the cause of the war, with each team obliterating each other in the process.
It's admittedly a lot of effort to explain away the inconsistencies in a game that was never intended to be as big or as popular as it was, but it certainly goes a long way in making Pokémon GO that bit more interesting for long-time fans of the series.
