10 Video Game Fan Theories That Became Fact

2. Final Fantasy VI - No Bandanas In This Party

Before the landmark Final Fantasy VII which catapulted the series to super-stardom, the underappreciated Final Fantasy VI contained many elements that VII was famous for, such as a gripping story and heartbreaking main character deaths.

A central plot point running throughout the game was a love triangle between gambler playboy Setzer, lovable rogue Locke and love interest Celes, with Setzer and Locke regularly competing for Celes' affection.

When Setzer joins your party, he is equipped by default with a bandana. If you unequip it, the game won't allow you to reequip it. This adds an additional, if slightly unbelievable layer to their fractious relationship.

Gamers theorised that because Locke wore a bandana throughout the game, Setzer chooses not to wear it again, in a move of jealousy, as Locke permanantly sported a bandana.

As improbable as this theory might seen, this theory was confirmed by Square Enix in V-jump magazine over two decades later. There is speculation that this was a glitch which the fan theory conveniently explained away, but regardless of this, it seems to fit well with the story and the characters personalities.
