10 Video Game Film Adaptations In Production Right Now

7. Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs is already earmarked for a film adaptation. Similar to Splinter Cell, Ubisoft Motion Pictures are captaining this transition onto film alongside New Regency. This can only bode well for the yet to be released game which has suffered setbacks and is now set to be released in Spring 2014. Ubisoft announced their intentions to develop Watch Dogs into a film during 2013's GamesCom. Hannah Minghella, president production at Colombia Pictures commented: "The themes and open gameplay of Watch Dogs lends itself perfectly to the big screen. The game has intense action and adventure, but the story focuses on information and the control of information, which we think will lead to an exciting thriller." As we are yet to have fully experienced the game in its entirety, and therefore unable to develop an understanding of its main character and storyline, the announcement of a film adaptation may simply add to its appeal. Watch Dogs is set in Chicago and grants the player the ability to control the city's Central Operating System (ctOS) - as the city is so revolved around technology, protagonist Aiden Pearce can effectively control the entire city. Sound fun? The game's premise focuses upon our uses of technology and how this can be used as a weapon against us, as in the case of Aiden Pearce who utilises it a method of exacting revenge following a family tragedy. A mixture of open-world action, stealth and possibly survival, the game does indeed evoke common themes of a technology-based thriller.
