10 Video Game Film Adaptations In Production Right Now

8. Splinter Cell

Ubisoft is certainly tackling the distinct lack of game-to-film content in the industry head-on. With a certain dominance, the company is set to produce a number game adaptations ready for release in the not-so-distant future. Splinter Cell has been a consistently evolving series and has sold approximately 23 million copies since it's debut in 2002. As a result, the motion picture has attracted big names - Tom Hardy is currently attached to play protagonist Sam Fisher and it was announced in 2012 that Eric Warren Singer, screenwriter of American Hustle, was set to pen the script. Ubisoft Montreal stated: "With actor Tom Hardy attached and screenwriter Eric Warren Singer to write the script, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will lead the development with the support of New Regency to bring the franchise to the big screen in a dynamic way." Hardy's wit and charm will no doubt bring about a further characterisation of the typically stoic Fisher, exhibiting the more humanised figure that has featured in recent games from the series. As an action film, Splinter Cell will delve deeper into the stealth aspect of covert operations - the trademark of the game. However, will this transition to film do the game justice? As the film is firmly in it's early production phase, any further announcements are yet to be made. The film has a strong franchise potential and if Singer's writing prestige and Hardy's eclectic acting performances are anything to go by, Splinter Cell may have a strong chance at becoming a blockbuster contender.
