10 Video Game Fourth Wall Breaks That Came Out Of NOWHERE
5. The Alien Can Hear You - Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation is a brilliant example of a horror game that doesn't have to use jumpscares to chill you to your core. The title prefers to rely on the cleverness of its titular antagonist that allows it to pursue you everywhere and make you feel like you're never quite safe from becoming its next victim.
However, smart AI isn't the only trick up the developers' collective sleeve for giving you the scare of your life. They are also willing to break the fourth wall for the right fear effect, as many console players had the displeasure of finding out on their own skin.
As it turns out, Alien: Isolation has microphone support secretly built into its mechanics.
It's not there to speak with other people, of course, but rather to allow the Alien to track you based on the real-life noises you make through your controller's microphone.
Yes, the feature allows the monstrous stowaway to follow your character by listening to your voice, and since it is turned on by default without any mention of it at the beginning of the game, it has managed to give many players quite the scare before they eventually caught on to it.
Nothing like having a xenomorph turn because it heard you in the living room…
