10 Video Game Franchises In Denial About Being Over

Wait... they're still making Bomberman?!

Some video games always appear to be on top. Super Mario. Grand Theft Auto. The Legend of Zelda. Even when these series release the odd dud, it's not too long before the franchise recuperates.

But no game can be #1 forever. Lemmings, Turok, and Duke Nukem were huge at one point but vanished into obscurity when interest in their games dried up.

But there are certain series which refuse to die, even when they really should. When a gaming company hasn't had a hit in decades or is haemorrhaging money, it's sensible for them to hang it up.

However, some studios keep churning out games, even when they have nothing to offer. Despite the fact Earthworm Jim, Battletoads, and Star Fox haven't been popular in forever, developers keep releasing games like this, purely because of brand recognition. Heck, there are certain franchises that are so bad, many players assume they were cancelled years ago, oblivious they're still going!

The games on this list may have been heavy-hitters in the old days but its time to put them out of their misery.

10. Bomberman

During the 1990s, Bomberman was dominating the gaming industry thanks to its addictive multiplayer. Considering the developers were releasing up to six Bomberman games per year during this period, the explosive franchise seemed unstoppable.

Sadly, the plucky bomber didn't make a smooth transition to 3D, causing his popularity to wane. Out of desperation, the studio attempted to reignite the fandom with the dark and gritty reboot, Bomberman: Act Zero. But with its drab desire and tedious gameplay, Act Zero was regarded as a travesty. Bomberman had a few more releases but seemed to fade out of existence by 2010.

But in 2017, Konami tried to bring back the bombastic hero with Super Bomberman R. Although the developers had to pull out all the stops to spark interest, this entry brought nothing new to the table.

Konami tried revitalising the franchise again three years later by introducing an online option in Super Bomberman R. Gamers were unimpressed, pointing out that this feature should've been included from the get-go, since multiplayer is Bomberman's selling point. Because the latest game had nothing to offer, it's baffling to understand why Konami were so eager to revive Bomberman in the first place.
