10 Video Game Franchises In Denial About Being Over

2. Five Nights At Freddy's

Whether you're a fan of Five Night at Freddy's or not, you have to admire its creator, Scott Cawthon. After the game's Kickstarter campaign failed to receive a single penny, Cawthon funded everything himself.

Fortunately, Five Nights was a monster success, becoming the biggest indie survivor game ever. (It's also responsible for causing millions of gamers to develop a phobia of animatronics.) Considering Cawthon released three sequels in less than a year, it was obvious he was milking the franchise for all its worth.

But you couldn't blame him. He knew Five Nights wasn't going to be on top forever so he had to strike while the iron was hot. Sure enough, interest in the series dried up after a few years and Cawthon retired in 2021.

But does that mean Five Nights is finished? Not even a little bit! Next year will see the release of Five Nights at Freddy's Plus, the new Tales from the Pizzaplex series, and another entry in the Fazbear Frights spin-off. Considering the two dozen follow-ups failed to capture the magic of the original, Five Nights feels like its flogging a dead horse (as well as the entire farm).
