10 Video Game Franchises That Desperately Need Reboots
4. Dead Space
Dead Space is often cited as one of the biggest victims of EA’s business policy. The games were hugely popular, the first two in particular, but the lack of mass market appeal for survival horrors saw the series axed.
If it does return, it would likely have some sort of games as a service model to it, but let’s just cross that bridge when we get there.
Aliens: Isolation tried to pick up the slack after Dead Space 3, providing terrifying sci fi horror as you fled from the ruthless Xenomorph. That changed things up from Dead Space, keeping you on the run rather than having you meet the creature head on.
That too enjoyed great critical reception but only average scales, and chances of a sequel evaporated. With the profit margin the be all and end all these days, any Dead Space reboot would likely be stripped down to its bare bones.
The game was largely built around shadows and the fear of the unknown though, so a budget version wouldn’t restrict it the way it would other games.
With developers Visceral being shut down, EA will need to entrust it to someone else if it’s ever going to be rebooted.
