10 Video Game Franchises That Desperately Need Reboots
3. Sunset Overdrive
A Sunset Overdrive reboot is definitely needed, because right now it’s a shame that Xbox have allowed one of their exclusives with real potential to just die out. Like Mass Effect, it would be a sequel-slash-reboot, but the game could do with a fresh jumping off point after the first one fizzled.
It felt like every part of the original was a few inches off kilter, and it didn’t seem to gain much traction with audiences.
The money that was spent (wasted, let’s be honest) on Crackdown might have been better spent trying to revive Sunset Overdrive.
The action-adventure game was one of this gen’s first exclusives, made by frequent Sony collaborator Insomniac. The wacky gameplay featured exploding teddy bears, and guns loaded with vinyl records, bowling balls and fireworks as you fought off energy drink zombies.
Insomniac have made it clear they want to make a sequel, but lack a publisher.
To add insult to injury for Xbox, Insomniac clearly took a lot of the imperfect but amazingly fun traversal system and funnelled it into the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man.
If Insomniac and Microsoft can work something out though, perhaps a rebooted Sunset Overdrive can finally deliver on the potential the first game teased.
