10 Video Game Franchises That Just Sat Out An ENTIRE Generation
1. Splinter Cell
Finally, we come to Ubisoft's Splinter Cell. The operations of Third Echelon's most skilled operative once gave the Metal Gear franchise a run for its money. The escapades of Sam Fisher have gone dark for the last seven years.
There have been no entries at all since 2013's Blacklist, with many wondering where the series will go next. When the Metal Gear series was killed off by Konami, Ubisoft created a tantalising video with Sam Fisher lamenting that he was the only major stealth-action protagonist left in the gaming industry.
Fans would be told to keep waiting however as Fisher wouldn't come out of the shadows for the rest of the eighth console generation. He never received a new mission on the PS4 or Xbox One and had to watch as Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs took over.
Recently however, Ubisoft announced a VR title in the series; while not quite the full release the community hoped for, the company isn't abandoning its premier stealth series just yet. Be that as it may, concerns have arisen that the next Splinter Cell will be monetised to hell and back.
