10 Video Game Franchises With Only ONE Good Game
3. Shadowrun

Shadowrun is a tabletop role-playing game set in a dystopian future where magic and technology coexist. Due to its popularity, it was bound to be adapted into a video game. However, being adapted into a good video game was a different story altogether.
The first three entries (all with the same title) suffered from slow pacing, dreary combat, and limited NPC interaction.
The fourth instalment (also called Shadowrun) tried something different, turning the franchise into an online shooter. It was an ambitious idea, but it didn't pay off. Though Shadowrun Returns went back to basics, its poor quality made the biggest advocates question whether the tabletop could be adapted well.
So when Shadowrun Dragonfall received positive reviews, it was a cause for celebration. Built on the foundation of Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall improved in every aspect. The combat system is still turn-based, but gave a sense of real strategy and variety, especially with the ability to modify and upgrade characters with cyberware. There were some unpolished elements and glitches, but The Director's Cut refined everything to perfection.
After 21 years, it looked like Shadowrun finally found its stride. However, the follow-up, Shadowrun: Hong Kong was nothing special, so it's possible Dragonfall was a one-off.
