10 Video Game Heroes Having The WORST Day
5. Max Payne
One would imagine the absolute worst day for Mr. Payne was coming home to a murdered wife and child. He grieves, transfers to the DEA and goes undercover, in a somewhat maligned attempt at normality.
Well, until he gets embroiled in something much larger, involving super-soldier drugs gone wrong, double-crossing bureau agents and the revelation that your family's death wasn't quite as random as it seems.
Turns out it hasn't been Max's day, week, month or even his year for quite some time.
It's quite easy to lose track of time in Payne's first outing, as he gets duped, drugged and shunted around more often than a festival goer on a bag of the happy sherbet. Yet surprisingly, this all happens over the course of a few days.
All the man wanted was some closure on his lost family, not to be embroiled in a story involving Russians, the mob, the not-quite-Illuminati, police corruption and every other detective stereotype going.
Some people get the hump at being asked to do overtime. Payne doesn't have a choice, as a pawn in a much grander scheme.
At least he finally gets a happier ending in the third game.
