10 Video Game Levels That Confused Everyone As Kids
4. World 3, 1st Fortress - Super Mario Bros. 3
For many young players, World 3, 1st Fortress was pretty much where their time playing Super Mario Bros. 3 came to an end. The level presents players with a ludicrous number of doors and tasks them with figuring out which one actually offers the path forward.
Cue every kid randomly choosing doors for hours on end and getting nowhere, made all the more frustrating by the harsh time limit imposed upon players.
The solution is extremely easy to execute once you know it - the sixth door on your right, followed by the door directly above you - but given the sheer number of doors in the hallway, it represented an infuriating brick wall to many.
Without any clear "tell" for players to find the correct door, it just reeks of lazy design intended to cause maximum confusion and elongate the game's length. Boo.
