10 Video Game Mechanics All Players HATE

5. Quick Time Events

Quick time events have been around for almost as long as video games themselves, which has only given us more time to reflect on just how annoying they truly are.

The argument that they make cutscenes more interactive - and therefore immerse us further into the game's world - is flimsy at best.

Instead, the usual result is that someone unprepared for the quick time event misses their chance or panic-pressed the wrong button, granting an insta-fail and forcing them to rewatch the cutscene from the beginning.

An even more painful extension of this entry is when the quick time event is used as a means of defeating a boss, robbing the player of any sense of satisfaction in their character's triumph.

Quick time events may have seemed like a good idea once upon a time, but nowadays they feel played out and over-done, and no one would miss them if they disappeared altogether.
