10 Video Game Mechanics All Players HATE
6. Loot Crates
Compared to many of the entries on this list, loot crates are relatively new to the list of offensive mechanics, but that doesn't make them any less despised by players.
Dancing along the lines of play-to-win tactics, studios have, in the past, used loot crates as a means of picking their players' pockets by offering in-game items for real money.
While on the surface it may differ little from the long-established DLC market, it is, in fact, a very different beast.
Loot crates are more often than not a glossy form of gambling, and in recent years the items they offer are rarely anything more than cosmetic, rendering them ultimately pointless.
Even though they are non-essential, and most players simply avoid the system entirely, its inclusion in a game is enough to prompt a groan from anyone who stumbles across it, secure in the knowledge that the game they're playing will do its absolute best to wrangle some of their hard earned cash from them.
