10 Video Game Mistakes (That Were Totally Intentional)

4. The Badly Rendered Wallpaper - Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Dead Space Remake
Nintendo

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - the recent remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl - you might take a look at the wallpaper in the player character's bedroom and find the zig-zag pattern a bit strange, as though it wasn't supposed to look like that.

But much like Hitman's "Allan" callback, in the remake this was a reference to an actual wallpaper glitch in the original Nintendo DS version of Diamond and Pearl, where a rendering bug caused the straight grey lines on the wallpaper to form a zig-zag pattern.

This was due to a quirk of the DS' rendering capabilities, confirmed by anyone who's ever played the game on a DS emulator, where the textures will display correctly as straight lines.

Yet the developers of the remake, ILCA, opted to pay homage to that infamous bug by sort-of recreating it, albeit while making it look a little less garish.
