10 Video Game “Mistakes” That Were Totally Intentional
4. Angry Gandhi - Civilization
If you've ever played the Civilization games, you might have noticed something strange about Gandhi. In real life, the Indian activist was a non-violent protester who chose peaceful methods every time. In the Civilization series, however, Gandhi has a real tendency to bomb the hell out of people at the earliest opportunity.
Gandhi's tendency to use nuclear weapons is reasonably higher than other characters. This was originally a bug, but in later iterations of the franchise, it became an amusing feature. To understand this bug, we need to look at the game's code. Each character has an "aggressiveness score" of 1 to 255. Gandhi's score was originally set to 1 as he's such a peaceful chap, but the score ended up ticking over to 255 when Gandhi's societies achieved democracy.
This meant that he basically became a homicidal lunatic who wanted to kill everyone as quickly and violently as possible. The developers fixed the issue in later games but decided to give Gandhi a higher chance of using nuclear bombs just to pay homage to this amusing oversight.
