10 Video Game Moments That Shouldn't Have Worked But Did
8. Zelda Turns Into A Dragon - The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom kicks things off with Link's Master Sword being shattered and Princess Zelda being transported into the distant past.
Knowing the Master Sword needs time to heal, Link sends it to the same time period Zelda resides in. Believing Link cannot defeat Ganondorf without his mighty blade, Zelda tries to find a way to return to the present.
However, the method the princess uses is... odd. Basically, Zelda transforms into an immortal furry dragon and imbeds the Master Sword into her skull. She then flies around for millennia, waiting for Link to find her and reclaim his Sword so he can vanquish evil.
This revelation is extra weird since Link repeatedly sees Zelda in her draconian form, oblivious of her true identity. LoZ has had plenty of strange moments, but having the titular character morph into a fluffy dragon is pretty WTF.
But at the same time, it demonstrates the purity and selflessness of Zelda, since she willingly gave up her humanity to preserve the Master Sword and ensure Link had the power to defeat Ganondorf in the future.
It's more impactful when replaying the adventure, since Dragon Zelda is introduced immediately after our hero sends the Master Sword through time, hinting at the creature's identity and highlighting how her destiny is intertwined with Link's.
