10 Video Game Moments That Were Utterly Patronising

Yeah, thanks Nintendo, we got it the first time...

Ever since its inception, the video game industry has constantly been plagued by the issues of difficulty settings and how much hand-holding they give to their players. Making a game too set in its difficulty and limited when it comes to training and guides can put off new players to a franchise, and stop others from seeing everything a title has to offer, with roughly fewer than 40% of players completing the original Dark Souls and around 22% managing to defeat False King in Demon's Souls, as an example.

However, making things too easy and filling a game with constant reminders and guides can irritate more experienced players or take away the fun of slogging through a level and getting that sense of achievement when they do overcome it.

But, whilst the gaming world has never had a problem giving the hardest titles and levels the infamous reputations they deserve, the times where franchises have gone the complete opposite way and been patronising beyond belief has had a noticeable lack of spotlight in comparison.

So here are ten vide game moments that were utterly patronising for players new or experienced.

10. We Can Do Anything Together - Sonic Forces

Sonic Forces was let loose in 2017 and, like every good 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game, is a pretty mixed bag. The game revolves around Dr. Eggman and a being known as Infinite taking over the world, with players taking hold of both classic and modern Sonic, as well as their very own customisable character. Whilst most of the levels do look great and run smoothly enough, there's a painful lack of originality to them and the whole story is just ridiculously short.

However, despite all the trailers making it seem like the game was going to be a gritty look at struggle and resistance, what really made Sonic Forces so disappointing for longtime fans of the series was just how cheesy the story's dialogue is. Everyone from Sonic to Shadow are constantly banging on about how anything is possible when you have friends around you. Whilst certainly an uplifting message to try and convey for players, the message quickly becomes lost in a patronising mess when it's being drummed in time and time again during the middle of a high stakes, high adrenaline series of missions.

Remember when Sonic the Hedgehog was the game franchise the cool older brothers chose to play?
