2. A Plague Tale: Requiem (2022) - Hugo
After narrowly escaping the devastating rat plague at the end of the previous game, it’s not long before siblings Amicia and Hugo de Rune are thrown headfirst into the chaos when the man-eating rats re-emerge to upend their lives once more.
Surrounded by death and devastation, the pair set out on a mission to find a cure for the sickness that’s slowly killing Hugo and finally put an end to the plague before it’s too late.
Much like the first game, Amicia and Hugo endure a harrowing ordeal which puts their survival and bond to the test. After going on this journey with them, it’s impossible not to become emotionally invested in their plight.
Being A Plague Tale, though, things don’t get any better for Amicia at the end. With the sickness now having taken over her brother, she realises that the only way to stop the plague is to kill him.
Struggling to hold back tears, Amicia takes out her sling and players must take aim at the youngster’s head before delivering the fatal blow.
Killing Hugo is one of the toughest things a game has asked us to do, but this action crystallises the losses they've faced along the way into one last scene.
