10 Video Game Moments You've Always Misunderstood

2. Tidus' Laugh Is Intentionally Awkward - Final Fantasy X

There's perhaps no single video game scene more infuriatingly misunderstood than the infamous Tidus laughing scene from Final Fantasy X.

The scene has been circulated online for years as an example of unintentionally stiff voice acting and poor writing, despite the fact that it's actually an example of neither. The crucial missing ingredient, as ever, is context.

So let's rectify that: Tidus starts forcing a robotic laugh after a heart-to-heart with Yuna, where she explains that she practises smiling when she's unhappy, resulting in Tidus letting out a comically exaggerated, implausible laugh at her encouragement.

Yuna then starts fake-laughing with Tidus, until the pair start genuinely laughing from the absurdity of it, all while their pals look on in utter astonishment.

The scene is supposed to be goofy and awkward - a silly sliver of comic relief, but anyone who's stumbled across a context-less clip online will simply assume it's a case of atrocious voice acting in a dead-serious moment.

That's not to say Final Fantasy X's voice work is amazing, but there are far too many kids who weren't even born when FFX came out who have the totally wrong idea about this scene.

The lesson here? Go play FFX already, young whippersnappers.
