1. Pyramid Head - Silent Hill Series

Pyramid head is a hulking, lurking, chasing, impaling spectre of Silent Hill 2 fame. With the series focusing on the psychological side of horror, this grotesque being doesn't tend to be presented as a simple physical enemy.

This can be the case, but more frequently, Pyramid Head is something deeper; a manifestation of the trauma rooted in a character's mind. In Silent Hill 2, the beast's official name was Red Pyramid Thing, and it existed to torment James Sunderland, going on to reappear in Silent Hill: Homecoming.

There is almost no defeating a Pyramid Head in conventional 'battle,' though this has been achieved (as with the two Pyramid Heads near Silent Hill 2's conclusion) through confrontation and resolution of internal trauma.

Formidable, towering foes, series protagonists have faced these creatures in set-piece boss battles that were largely fruitless and almost un-winnable. They can easily eviscerate anyone with their vast weapons, while representing something ultimately much more terrifying.
