10 Video Game Openings Designed To Make You Quit

1. Final Fantasy XIII

In contrast to the other games on this list, Final Fantasy XIII is largely considered a bad game (one of many permanent stains on the underwear of its beloved series).

After witnessing an impressive cinematic that succeeds in establishing the game’s only semi-good hero Lightning, you are forced to participate in a boss battle. Through conquering the sudden boss by doing nothing but pressing X, the tutorial informs you that strategy is a foreign concept to the game’s battle system (it is only until Chapter 10 that you are able to create parties).

Unexplained stats and XP are given to you, but they never feel earned as the game controls like it’s playing itself with you being a meaningless observer.

In addition to its effortless combat, the game also has you on rails with its linear hallways. For hours you are made to sit and watch your characters initiate the same battle animations, jog down identical hallways and be obnoxious idiots through cut-scenes that make you feel nothing but contempt.

This monotonous routine is enough to make any gamer fall into an inescapable state of depression. It’s why many fans treat the game as a black sheep of the franchise, even in-spite-of delusional loyalists who attempt to excuse its mediocrity by exclaiming it gets more open after twenty-hours.
