3. Five Nights At Freddy's Was Inspired By Bad Reviews For The Creator's Previous Game

Sometimes great success can be born from great failure, and that's absolutely the case with the beloved Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.

The series, created by Scott Cawthon, was conceived after Cawthon read reviews for his previous game, construction and management sim Chipper & Sons Lumber Co., where players likened the characters to offputtingly creepy animatronic creatures.

This prompted Cawthon to spin his negative into a positive, deciding that his next game would not only be in the horror genre, but lean into the whole "creepy animatronic" shtick in the most literal way possible.

And so, Five Night at Freddy's saw players desperately trying to survive against a fleet of homicidal animatronic characters, allowing Cawthon to deliver creepy thrills that were this time entirely intentional. Bravo.
