This might seem like an obvious choice, and well... it is. But that is simply because Mario 64 deserves it. It is one of the best 3D platformers of all time and defined the genre. When it comes to platformers, Mario is king, and there is rarely a better 3-D platformer than 64.
Its focuses on tight-knit controls and precise platforming was revolutionary and it will forever be remembered for catapulting Mario into 3D. Some might consider the visuals to be a part of its charm, but it would be well worth it to immortalise it in glorious HD and with the proper love it deserves.
Besides, if you go back and play it now, it does look... It doesn't look great. Whilst it is functionally playable, the textures and the blockiness of the world can be of putting.
