10 Video Game Reboots That Saved Iconic Franchises
10. Ninja Gaiden
The transition from 2D to 3D wasn't kind to some of gaming's most well-known (at the time) titles. While plenty of games crashed and burned during this period, only a handful of fan-favourites made it through the transition to come out stronger than ever on the other side. One of those successful franchises was Ninja Gaiden; not exactly must own releases in the side-scrolling genre, the original games still provided players with difficult and engaging action-adventure romps. Fortunately, the transition to 3D allowed for the series to hone its spectacular fighting skills, with developers taking the time to craft a deep and challenging combat system that rivalled the likes of Devil May Cry at the time of release. However it was the legendary difficulty that made the game stick out so much to this day, as even the most hardened gamers struggled to see the end credits of this acclaimed reboot. It's just a shame that as of part three, it's been slowly losing its way all over again.
