10 Video Game Remakes & Remasters That Surpassed Expectations

9. DuckTales Remastered

Saints row 3 remaster
Disney

The original DuckTales, released on the NES all the way back in 1989, was a perfect marriage of Disney's then growing lineup of afternoon cartoons and Capcom's success with the Mega Man franchise. It would go on to sell over a million copies worldwide, spawning a sequel and various spin-offs based on other Saturday afternoon cartoons and to this day it's considered one of the greatest ever NES games.

With all that in mind, indie studio WayForward were set the task of reviving the game in 2010, under Capcom and Disney's supervision.

The finished product mixed together the original games designs, levels and key game moments with a complete overhaul of its visuals and sound, throwing in a few extra boss battles for good measure. The original voice cast also returned, expanding the narrative and providing the closest thing to a brand new episode of the series at the time.

It's a shame that DuckTales Remastered was released before the revived animated series, but perhaps its success and fan feedback led Disney to make the not so difficult decision of bringing the show back. Keep those fingers crossed that we get a whole new sequel one day.
