With the benefit of hindsight, it's hard to believe anyone was hyped for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.

Despite the fact GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas are considered masterpieces, it looked like the remaster would improve on them further. The Definitive Edition included new features, including destination waypoints, accessible controls more akin to GTA V, an advanced lighting engine, fine-tuned mechanics, and overhauled graphics.

However, it was the game's overall design that generated the most grievances. Rather than enhancing the graphics the old fashioned way, AI was used to upscales textures, cursing every character with disproportionate body parts, rubbery animations, and alien-like facial expressions.

Somehow, the game plays worse than it looks, especially the PC version, which was unplayable for the first three days. Due to the abundance of glitches, it wasn't long before refunds were demanded.

Just to rub salt in the wounds, Rockstar delisted the original titles from digital stores, so this pitiful trilogy was the only way to experience the stories of the original GTA trilogy. Understandably, this foolish decision inspired the angry mob to review-bomb this trainwreck into oblivion.

Despite the fact this decision was reversed, it was too little too late. If the developers patched GTA: The Trilogy to perfection (which they didn't), it still wouldn't undo the damage it caused.
