10 Video Game Review Scores Fans Lost Their MINDS Over
2. Starfield Gets A 7/10 From IGN & Gamespot
The most hysterical review discourse of the year has unquestionably been reserved for the recently released Starfield, which being a Bethesda game and all, invited sky-high expectations from fans of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises.
Many anticipated a sure-fire Game of the Year contender, only to be taken aback by the more broadly positive - yet not foamingly glowing - reviews from many prominent outlets.
Most notably, IGN and Gamespot both awarded Starfield a 7/10, lauding the project's ambition and gunplay, but dinging the game for its dated gameplay design and rather underwhelming main campaign.
Beyond this, Starfield's Metacritic score ended up settling at 83 - a very solid, respectable number by any metric, albeit a far cry from the 90+ "masterpiece" verdicts fans had already written in their heads.
But it couldn't possibly be that the game was simply "pretty good" and yet hardly an era-defining piece of work. No, fans had to convince themselves that critics were being overly harsh and had a nebulous Agenda against the game.
The ensuing discourse about the utility of game reviews and whether a 7/10 is a good score or not was, predictably, totally exhausting.
