7. Not Riding Yoshi - Super Mario 64

Gex ending
Nintendo

As the first 3D Super Mario game, Super Mario 64 laid the foundation used by every 3D Mario title since. Even for a game as relatively recent as Super Mario Odyssey, the core mechanics are still carried over more or less identically from Super Mario 64.

Every 3D Mario game since has also been based largely around collecting a finite number of items - Stars, Shines, Moons etc. - both necessary and secret. Sometimes punishingly secret.

With each game, the number grows and they become harder to obtain, so you'd expect something pretty good for your efforts.

For all that hard work in Mario 64, you get to unlock a cannon that shoots you to the roof of Princess Peach's castle, where you can finally meet Yoshi!

Your beloved friend/steed from Super Mario World, we all remember Yoshi and his multicolored friends, giving us a huge power and exploration boost when riding them. So what do you get when you meet Yoshi in Mario 64?

You just kinda catch up. You know, because you haven't seen each other in a while.

So yeah. Good talk, no ride. See ya around, I guess.
