The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past contains a bizarre secret room which can be accessed several ways, most commonly using Pegasus Boots to dash from the Sanctuary all the way to the Sewer Passageway's entrance, causing Link to fall into an underground room.

This room will contain 45 blue rupees for players to hoover up, and upon touching the telepathy tile on the back wall, a message will be displayed: "My name is Chris Houlihan. This is my top-secret room. Keep it between us, ok?"

It feels totally out of place for a Zelda game, because above all else, who the hell in Hyrule is even named Chris anyway?

It's completely baffling to anyone not in the know, though if you've been a hardcore Zelda fan since the early years, you might remember that this was actually part of a competition run by Nintendo Power magazine in late 1990.

Entrants had to take a picture of themselves encountering the rare Warmech enemy in Final Fantasy and send it in, resulting in a man evidently named Chris Houlihan winning the competition.

Only in the 2000s with the global adoption of the Internet did the room become more widely known, but even then, it's still a firmly niche, mystifying slice of gaming history.
