10 Video Game Secrets You Weren't Supposed To Find

8. The Alternate Ending (Shadow Of The Tomb Raider)

Grand Theft Auto 3
Square Enix

Imagine playing through a game, beating it, and hopping online to share your thoughts with everybody else, only to discover that the rest of the world experienced a completely different ending to the one you got.

You'd probably feel confused, alienated and alone, but that "different ending" scenario is something that a Shadow of the Tomb Raider player actually experienced in 2018.

The game released, everybody played it, and discussions ensued. Except one user on the Tomb Raider forums - going by the name of Tombstone - started talking about an ending that nobody else had seen, claiming that the game ended with Lara receiving a letter from Natla, the villain in the original 1996 Tomb Raider game.

Other forum users claimed that Tombstone was lying, but he wasn't. He had actually discovered the game's discarded original ending, something that was mistakenly included in the final product and was meant to be erased with a day-one patch. But for users who didn't install this patch - like Tombstone - it was still intact.
